水辺に葦/蘆が生え始めるころ

24 Solar Terms is Kokuu.

When the spring rains fall to grow grain.

72 pentads is Ashihajimetesyouzu.

When reeds start to grow on the water’s edge.

枯れ草のようだった岸辺に新しい緑の葭＝葦/蘆（あし/よし）が顔を出す頃になると、水辺の春を感じます。やさしい風に吹かれる柳の新緑や鳥たちの囀（さえず）りは、巡る季節を伝えてくれるようです。

最近では、葭＝葦/蘆から紙だけでなく、糸も作られているとか。身近にある素材を活かして、余すことなく使っていくことができれば、嬉しいですね。

When new green reeds appear on the shore, which used to be dry grass, it feels like spring on the waterfront. The fresh greenery of the willows blown by the gentle breeze and the chirping of birds seem to tell us the changing seasons.

Recently, not only paper but also thread has been made from reeds. We would be happy if we could make full use of the materials around us.
