When you first see a rainbow.
ところで「虹色は何色？」と聞かれたら、あなたは何と答えますか？
By the way, if you were asked, “What colors are in the rainbow?”, what would you answer?
恐らく、多くの日本人は『赤橙黄緑青藍紫』の7色と答えるのではないでしょうか。（「せきとうおうりょくせいらんし」と覚えました）
私も長いあいだ「虹色＝なないろが当たり前」だと思っていたのですが、留学生の方に「自分の国では虹は7色ではない」と教わり、驚いた経験があります。
Most Japanese people would probably answer the seven colors: red-orange-yellow-green-blue-indigo-purple. (I memorized it as “Sekitououryokuseiranshi”)
For a long time, I also thought that the colors of the rainbow were natural, but I was surprised when an international student told me that in her country, the rainbow doesn’t have seven colors.

最も多色なのが、8色。黄緑も虹色に含まれるそうです。
日本と同じく7色と答える人が多いのは、フランスやオーストラリア。
藍を含まない6色の国、橙や藍を含まない5色の国…地域や民族によっては、赤と黒の2色と認識するところも！
確かに、虹も7色がハッキリ見える時もあれば、一部の色しか認識できない時もあります。隣り合う色の境も曖昧ですし。太陽光の強さ（日差し）や空気中の水分によっても見え方が違うのかもしれません。
The most versatile one is 8 colors. It seems that yellow-green is also included in the rainbow colors.
Like Japan, France and Australia have many people answering 7 colors.
Countries with six colors that do not include indigo, countries with five colors that do not include orange or indigo… Depending on the region or ethnicity, some countries recognize them as two colors, red and black!
It’s true that there are times when we can clearly see all seven colors of the rainbow, and other times when we can only recognize some of the colors. The boundaries between adjacent colors are also vague. The appearance may differ depending on the strength of sunlight (sunshine) and the amount of moisture in the air.
次回出会う虹は、何色に見えるのでしょう。自然が作りだす美しさは、毎回楽しみと感動を与えてくれるようです。
