七十二候(しちじゅうにこう)は霞始靆(かすみはじめてたなびく) 春の霞がたなびき始めるころ。
24 Solar Terms is Usui. When snow and ice begin to melt and snow turns to rain.
72 pentads is Kasumi-hajimetetanabiku. Spring haze begins to waft.
春霞(はるがすみ)という言葉もあるように、「霞(かすみ)」は春の季語。同じ現象でも、秋は「霧(きり)」、夜は「朧(おぼろ)」と呼びます。
気象用語ではなく、自然現象を季節や時間に応じて使い分けてきた古の人々の感性の豊かさ。あらためて感服します。
As the word “Harugasumi” means, “Kasumi” is a seasonal word for spring. The same phenomenon is called “Kiri” in autumn and “Oboro” at night.
The rich sensibilities of ancient people, who used different terms for natural phenomena depending on the season and time, rather than meteorological terms. I am once again impressed.
