今年の2月9日は、旧暦の12月30日（＝旧暦の大晦日）翌日には新春を迎えるとはいえ、さすがに春告鳥(はるつげどり)と呼ばれる鶯(うぐいす)も、その声を披露するのは時期尚早でしょうか。

また、多くのイラストで「梅に鶯」として描かれるとき、新春や新芽をイメージするやわらかで明るい緑色の鶯が多いように感じます。実際の鶯は、もう少し落ち着いた渋めの体色。

February 9th of this year is December 30th of the lunar calendar (= New Year’s Eve in the lunar calendar) The next day marks the arrival of the New Year, but it will still be a long time before the nightingale, known as the Harutsuge-dori, makes its voice heard.

Also, in many illustrations, when plums and nightingales are depicted, it seems like the soft, bright green color of the nightingale is often associated with the new year or new buds. Actual nightingales have a more subdued, amber body color.

鳴き声は聞いても姿を見ることの少ない鳥なので、庭木などにもやってくる目白(めじろ)のように描かれるのかもしれませんね。

The nightingale is a bird that can be heard singing but rarely seen, so perhaps it is depicted as a White-eye that often comes to gardens.
