ここでの橘(たちばな)とは、柑橘類（実）のこと。常緑樹の柑橘の木々は、葉は冬でも青々（＝緑色）としていますよね。そして食用の実は、黄色から橙色に色づいていきます。
Tachibana here refers to citrus fruit.The leaves of evergreen citrus trees remain green even in winter. The edible fruit then changes color from yellow to orange.
また桃の節句（上巳の節句）で、雛人形とともに「左近の桜、右近の橘(さこんのさくら、うこんのたちばな)」として飾られているのをご存知の方もいらっしゃるでしょう。
Some of you may also know that during the Momo no Sekku (Jyoushi no Sekku) Girl’s Festival, along with Hina dolls, they are displayed as “Sakon no Sakura, Ukon no Tachibana”.
左近の桜・右近の橘/Sakon no Sakura, Ukon no Tachibana
平安宮内裏の紫宸殿（南殿ともいう）前庭に植えられている桜とタチバナ。左近・右近は左近衛府・右近衛府の略称。左近は紫宸殿の東方に，右近は西方に陣をしくが，ちょうどその陣頭の辺に植えられているのでこの名がある。

Cherry blossoms and Tachibana are planted in the front garden of Shishinden (also known as South Hall) in the inner palace of Heian Palace. Sakon/Ukon is an abbreviation for Sakonoefu/Ukonoefu. Sakon is encamped to the east of Shishinden, and Ukon is encamped to the west, and it is so named because it is planted just near the beginning of the encampment.
